First making his mark with Steely Dan, McDonald then began his long run with the Doobie Brothers, singing lead on signature songs such as "What a Fool Believes," which won the Grammy for Song of the Year, and "Minute by Minute," which carried away the Record of the Year Grammy. As a solo artist, McDonald's husky, passionate voice has put its imprint on a steady stream of memorable songs, including his mega-hit version of the Motown favorite "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."
