Diavolo Dance Theater

, Newlin Hall

With Diavolo, universes collide. Art meets science, matter and space coexist, reality ends where imagination begins. Under the direction of Jacques Heim, who recently choreographed Cirque du Soleil’s KÀ, Diavolo reinvents dance, re-imagines theater and redefines thrills. Paired with large objects, Diavolo takes movement, athletics and daring to the extreme to create abstract narrative in which inspiration thrives. Comprised of dancers, gymnasts, athletes and actors who create performances collaboratively, everyday items such as doors and chairs, ladders and stairways, cylinders and wheels – exaggerated in size and function – become co-conspirators as the dancers shock and delight audiences with leaps, spins and contortions. “Heim puts his feel for props, his knack for kinetic drama and his taste for danger in the service of a metaphor, and the result is dazzling” (New York Newsday).
